The Wichita Community Foundation supports a wide variety of
charitable purposes. Grants are made within the areas of
Arts/Humanities, Environment/Conservation, Health, Education and
Human & Social Services.
THE VICTOR MURDOCK FUND
The Victor Murdock Fund is committed to benefiting the quality of
life in Wichita. Continuing a tradition established in 1974, the
Fund has and will continue to commit to a wide range of projects
in pursuit of its mission.
Grants are made within the areas of Journalism, Fine Arts,
History, Health, Science, Religion, Education, Literature, Music,
Human Services and Research.
WHAT DO WE FUND?
The Victor Murdock Fund makes grants to institutions that directly
affect the quality of life in Wichita, KS. Potential grantseekers
should carefully review the following detailed Fund guidelines
prior to submitting a proposal.
- Programs serving Wichita, Kansas
- Programs that avoid duplication of existing
services
- Programs that collaborate with or facilitate
collaboration among nonprofit organizations
- Programs that suggest creative and practical
approaches to community problems
- Organizations with fiscal soundness
- Organizations that leverage other funding
sources when available
- Programs that exhibit measurable results
- Organizations that demonstrate present and
future sustainability
- Programs that address prevention as well as
remediation
- Capital equipment, improvements and
construction
WHAT DO WE DECLINE?
- General support of operating budgets
- Reduction of organizational debt
- Direct lobbying or influencing of elections
- Tax-supported government functions
- Funding individuals
- Unnecessary duplication of existing services
- Fund-raising campaigns and expenses
- Endowments
- Fellowships
- Beauty or talent contests
- Support of religious organizations of
religious purposes
- Courtesy advertising
FUNDING LEVELS
The Victor Murdock Fund will consider requests beginning at
$500.00. The average grant awarded is $2,500-$5,000.
Requests for larger amounts may be considered under special
circumstances. Applicants should contact the Wichita Community
Foundation prior to submittal of requests greater than $5,000.
Applicants should be aware requests often exceed available funds
and unfortunately, many worthwhile organizations may not be funded
HOW TO APPLY
Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the guidelines
carefully prior to submitting a grant.
The Program Officer of the Wichita Community Foundation is
available at 316-264-4880 to answer questions regarding the
application form and how it is to be completed.
The application should be no longer than 2 pages, with 11 point
type. Enclose the proposal in leaf form only (no covers). Include
one original with one copy of the attachments (see
Attachments), and 5 collated copies, on holed paper, of the following items
numbered:
1. Application Cover Page
2. Description of your organization
3. What the funds will be used for
4. Why it is needed
5. How it will help
6. Project Budget (this may be submitted on a separate
page)
Required Attachments
Submit one copy of the following along with the
original request.
1. Board of Directors List
2. Copy of 501(c)(3) designation letter from the Internal
Revenue Service
3. When your organization was founded
4. The most recent financial statements (with management
report) and current operating budget of the organization.
Grants are awarded following the meeting of the Victor Murdock
Fund advisory board and the Wichita Community Foundation Board in October.
APPLICATION DEADLINES:
Grant applications are due to the Wichita Community Foundation at
200 W. Douglas, Suite 250, Wichita, KS 67202 no later than 4 p.m. on
the 30th of August. There will be no exceptions.
