The Wichita Community Foundation has expended its available grant dollars for the current fiscal year.  Please check this website for periodic updates.

April 2012 Grants Awarded:

KPTS:  $50,000 in a one year, dollar for dollar, challenge grant to support the station's efforts to enhance and strengthen its digital signal by constructing a translator tower in Wichita.  At a total cost of $650,000, the public television station is working to restore free programming to 34,000 households in Wichita, reaching an estimated 30,000 children and providing them with award winning educational programs such as Sesame Street.

Salvation Army:  $4,265 to help the victims of the April 14 tornado with unmet needs as they rebuild their lives.  These funds will be coupled with an existing disaster fund at the Foundation established after the Andover tornado and will provide relief and assistance to an estimated 100 persons.

Kansas Aviation Museum:  $5,000 to pay the Museum's insurance deductible for damage sustained during the April 14th tornado.

American Red Cross:   $5,000 to underwrite free, door to door medical transportation service for elderly and disabled residents in the Sedgwick County area. 

Breakthrough/Episcopal Social Services:  $7,000 to underwrite accounting and facilities utilization services toward the merger of these two nonprofit organizations. 

Caring Ladies Assisting Students to Succeed:  $20,000 to provide two years underwriting for basic operations, helping provide college tours, leadership workshops, self-esteem retreats and exposure to science, technology, and engineering careers to at-risk adolescent girls in our community.

Central Prairie Honor Flights:   $3,250 to underwrite travel costs to the World War II memorial in Washington, DC for 5 WWII veterans from Wichita, KS. 

City of Wichita- Arts & Cultural Services:  $3,000 to underwrite on-going educational programs at Old Cowtown Museum.

Medical Loan Closet:  $5,000 for parts, transportation and supplies to repair medical equipment  that is loaned free of charge to uninsured patients in Sedgwick County.

Real Men, Real Heroes$10,000 to fund salaries for a part time position and a grant writer to raise funds and help establish the organization's marketing efforts.

SIDS Network of Kansas, Inc.:  $6,250 to purchase 1,000 sleepsacks which will be distributed free of charge by the organization to help create a safe sleep environment for infants.

Wichita Grand Opera:  $10,000 to underwrite the young and resident artists programs, providing advanced training for deserving young talent.

Wichita Public Schools:  $5,000 to support the continuation of the National Academic League within the school system, helping students throughout Wichita competitively demonstrate academic excellence.

KSU Research & Extension:  $10,000 to support the creation of an outdoor education center in west Wichita.

His Helping Hands:  $12,000 to complete a mattress deconstruction facility that will re-make used mattresses into new ones for distribution to families in need.

Union Rescue Mission:  $5,000 to provide holiday food boxes for distribution to struggling families in Wichita.

Kansas Big Brother Big Sisters:  $10,000 for general operating support.

InterFaith Ministries:  $7,000 to provide milk for young children residing at the InterFaith Inn homeless shelter.

E.C. Tyree Clinic:  $25,000 toward the capital campaign to expand the Clinic and its services in northeast Wichita.

Kansas 150 Celebration:  $5,000 to underwrite a Wichita-based, statewide celebration of the 150th anniversary of Kansas statehood.

Advocates to End Chronic Homelessness:  $10,000 to underwrite expenses for supplies to establish winter overflow shelters for the homeless.

Real Men, Real Heroes: $10,000 for capacity building and technical assistance to help the organization improve its internal communications and grow.

His Helping Hands:  $7,500 toward the purchase of a used truck to haul donated furniture.

Wichita Indochinese Center:  $19,266 for underwrite the salary of an English as a Second Language instructor for one year.

Share the Season 2010: $20,000 to help underwrite the tenth annual campaign to help the working poor during the holiday season.

Caring Ladies Assisting Students: $10,000 to underwrite an intervention program initiative designed to promote, inspire and support adolescent females to graduate, changing their lives for the better.

Guadalupe Clinic: $12,450 to fund an upgrade of medical software in the safety net clinic, allowing electronic medical records to be available to clinic doctors.


Community Venture Grants

Wichita Art Museum:  $35,000 to underwrite general operating expenses at the Museum.

KU School of Medicine-Wichita:  A second grant of $50,000 to the 4Wichita campaign to enlarge the educational opportunities through establishing a four year program for medical students.

KU School of Medicine-Wichita: $50,000 to the 4Wichita campaign to take KU Med Wichita to a four year campus, enabling future doctors to train and possibly stay in our community.

Breakthrough: $32,600 for the third and final year of the Robert Wood Johnson HEAL Project, promoting healthy lifestyles to patients experiencing the side effects of psychotropic medications.

Hunter Health Clinic:  $40,000 to help establish a medical clinic in Planeview through the Planeview Transformation Coalition.


2011 Victor Murdock Grants

ARC of Sedgwick CountyA $2,500 challenge grant toward the purchase of a new passenger van

Arts Partners:  $3,810 to underwrite a new Toshiba phone and voicemail system.

Bread of Life:  $2,500 toward the replacement of a stolen air conditioning unit at the food pantry.

Catholic Charities, Inc.:  A challenge grant to purchase a freezer for a facility serving disabled, low income adults.

Communities in Schools:  A challenge grant of $1,723 toward the purchase of a new copier.

FUNdamental Learning Center:  A challenge grant of $2,500 toward the purchase of a used copier for their offices.

Rainbows United:  $1,541 for prevention materials to be distributed to patients by pediatricians.

Real Men Real Heroes:  A challenge grant of $2,500 for starting an annual audit for the organization.

Friends University, Newman University and Wichita State University:  Continuing scholarship support.
